Wow, i am completely intrigued by this movie! This movie is bold, and just very deep. I believe one of their main themes is "Be who you are". I truely beleive this is the point they are trying to get across because we can first hand witness all of the things vincent has had to sacrifice just to be someone he is not. And i believe, deep down he is very unhappy with himself. Another theme i am getting from this movie is the power of determination. Vincent is determined to go out into space and he is willing to do whatever it takes! I am just blown away by his drive about do this act! I really like this movie! :)~Sheyla

One theme of the movie is never give up on what you believe in. He was doing everything just so his dreams could come true. He was willing to risk everything for it.Another theme of the movie is helping others. The real Jerrom was willing to help Vincent. He wanted Vincent to be able to reach his goals. They both could get in a lot of trouble for this and Jerrom was willing to do that for Vincent.

I believe that two important themes in this movie are where he tries to be someone that he isn't with the help of that person and how with failure throughout his life he still keeps going towards his goal. When he was younger he was always trying to out do his younger brother because his younger brother was better than him genetically. He was also dreaming about a career in space even though he didn’t have the right genetic background to do so. So to do what he wanted to in life he hired some professional to make him into someone that he wasn’t just so he could live a certain lifestyle. Even when he was failing early on in life and jumping from job to job he still wanted to have some sort of career that he wasn’t cut out to fulfill genetically.

I think that one of the most important things in this movie is how he feels like he was noone his whole life. He is so committed to this life he wants he would do anything to achieve it. He went as far as breaking his legs and having them make him 2 inches taller. Everyday he has to be someone else just to get what he wants out of his life. I think another important part in this movie is how one little thing wrong with someone could effect whether or not someone goes in space. Like the girl has 1 percent bad in her and she would not even get looked at to go in space. Their world is full of negativness and there is no way out. I think they are both very strong people and are doing everything to make their dream come true...

To me Gattaca is showing how out of control DNA analysis is getting. What happened to the days when people just had kids and dealt with the disabities they had? People really do have their unborn child's DNA tested to see what imperfections they will be born with. I think scientist messing with DNA have way too much power. I also think this shows how easy it is for a person to change identity, and the extent they go to is unreal. It scared me.

In my opinion the theme of the movie is to show us how easy it is to steal someone's identity. Eveyone has a dream in life and they are telling you to never give up on your dreams no matter what. When the machine came up with a in valid match to someone that worked there it came up with Vincents picture and they imeditely thought it was him that killed the guy. It is so easy to steal someones identity and get away with it. but if anyone was to find out that Jurone was really Vincent they both could get in a lot of trouble

One Theme of the movie is that the people are working on going to space. There are people watching the spaceships going up in the movie. Another theme is that they people in the movie have to have a certain type of cells. They look for specimins in the movie of hair, skin, and other types of samples to identify eachother. The superviser was killed, and then they found an eyelash of an Invalid. Someone who is not there.
I dont know why he has a different type of blood, or why they call Vincent an invaled.

Perfection and Imperfection is one them of this movie. An eample is the part in the movie where the main character states that people are judged by their genes. People with bad genes get the worst jobs. People with good genes get better jobs. Another theme is defying the odds. There is the part in the movie where Vincent won the game of chicken against his brother.

This is already a great movie. I enjoyed the first part that we have watched so far! I feel that there could be many themes happening in this movie. One, portraying to be someone your are not is a very risky thing to do. Second, when you have a goal or dream, there is almost no stopping someone to do it. Eveyone has a dream and some people will do anything to achieve it. I can't wait to see more of this movie!

I think the two major themes in this movie are how in this day in age society is making it harder and harder to be comfortable with who you are. In the movie, to live out his dreams, Vincent was forced to become someone he was not. He went to harsh extremes to make sure he was not "found out". The other prominent theme is how ridiculous it is becoming that you can basically mail-order your children. You shouldn't be able to choose your children from a catalog. You should be able to deal with certain diseases, birth defects, or physical shortcomings. Play the cards you are dealt with is what I guess I am trying to say.

This is one movie i am beginning to like. The theme is be who you are, not who you want to be. In the movie we see the hard sacrifices the Vincent had to make to become Jerome. He was willing to give up everything he had for everything he wanted. He really is determined to get what he wants no matter what it takes.

One of the messages in this movie is, if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it. Vincent wants to go to space so badly that he will do anything. Another message this movie is trying to send is not to be something that your aren't. He is hiding himself behind Jerom. He spends so much time trying and perfecting to be some one else.

I think one theme of the movie Gattaca is self-denial. Although Vincent knows who he actually is, he is inevitably going to be in denial about it because he plays an opposite role every day. He can almost convince himself he is Jerome. Another theme is overcoming difficulties. Vincent was always weak growing up and, even though he still has a weak heart, he is showing that he can still do what outsiders think to be impossible. He may have been wearing Jerome's heart monitor when he was on the treadmill, but he still managed to physically run the required length of time. He may be going about it wrong by posing as someone else, but it is helping him realize he can do the same things the "perfect" people can.

Never quit is one of the themes i believe is a big part of the movie. We see all the things vincent has had to go through in life for example, when he beat his brother in chicken that was a big turning point in his life. I also think how he has that feeling of loneliness and has noone in his life is another theme to this movie. He really wants to achieve his goals and he will do anything to do it.

One of the themes is that you can do anything you set your mind to. Vincent is bound and determind to go to space he has dreamed of it since he was a little boy. He is willing to do everything in his power to make his dream come true. I think it is pretty cool how Jerromis willing to help Vincent to become Derrom. Derrom is kindy living his dream threw Vincent since he cant anymore, and Vincent is living his dream threw Jerrom.

This movie has several themes. I believe one of the themes they are trying to get across would be determination. Vincent is so determined to go to space that he has actually taken someone elses identity. Another theme would be how people are too concerned with diseases and disabilities. People don't really do these things, do they?~Shayla

Perfection over regularity is the biggest theme. The character feels that in order to be successful he has to be the best. It also encounters the themes of ambition and desire. Which go along with the perfection. He's really Machiavellian.

The movie Gattaca is very deep. It makes you think about every detail about a person's genetics and DNA. Vincent is basically "stealing" Jerome's genetics even though he has permission from Jerome. Is this what the world will come to? You will be able to chose your child's genetics and know the second they are born what illnesses they will encounter and how long they will live? The saying that "Jerome" (Vincent) said "Invalid self in a valid world" is very powerful stating that he believes because he has "defaults" in a "normal" world.

There are two main themes that stand out to me in this movie. First of all, I think they are trying to bring out a message of that you need to be yourself. Even though Vincent has done everything he can to erase himself and start over as a new perosn, I think he still knows that he will some day get caught. Now that he's dream is finally coming true it seems that he is feeling some remorse for not forfillng it as himself but as jerome. The second theme the movie is trying to convey is if you want something that badley, then you will do what it takes to get it. Vincent knew he would have to give up a lot of things to get it and even though somethings were painfull, he did it anyway. Even the painfullness of making he's legs longer.

This movie is scary. With the rate at which technology is progressing, the idea of eventually having a 'super-human' race seems very possible. I think the movie is trying to show that success doesn't depend on where you came from or what genetic weaknesses you may aquire in the future. The only thing that matters is the individual's determination. The movie also shows that perhaps technology has crossed a line. In our culture today, people with disabilities are cast aside and seen as somewhat unworthy. But creating a designer child is immorally wrong.

I think that one of their main themes it to not give up on your dreams. The movie is clearly showing that Vincent cares about what he wants, and is willing to do whatever it takes. The way he goes about getting what he wants isn't to good becasue he has to sacrifice so much, but it seems like that's what he really wants and doesn't mind doing all the sacrifices. Another theme is that it would also be nice to be happy with who we are. it's important to also remember to be happy.

Very interesting movie! Two of the more obvious themes represented in the movie are the concept of the valid and invalid people and this high tech form of discrimination. It is interesting to see the degree to which the hero was prepared to go to become a part of the valid demographic. I find it interesting that while this movie shows the advancement of sciene it show the lack of advancement in the base human mindset of discrimination.

I think this movie is very interesting. One theme of this movie is don't give up whatever you want. Vincent, he was very weak and not healthy. But he never gine up. And finally, he found Jerome and he went a Gattaca. Second theme of this movie is bad effect of science. Beginning og the movie, Vicent made his brother by Vicent's DNA. Because Vicent was so week. But it makes Vicent so hard. And because of science, he decided to be a Jerome. He changed hair and height. I think they wnat to show us about bad effect of science.

The themes of the movie were that Vincent thought he belong in that world. He thought he was right he was happy, and he did not care what anyone else thought as long as he was happy. He was not going to let anyone tell him he did not belong. He was willing to fight for what he thought was right. The movie is saying if you think something is right doing not let anyone else tell you different. Like when his brother told him he did not belong, he told him he did and was ready to fight for his right to be there. He also went out of his way to help his friend Jerome he pretended to be Jerome his friend in the movie I think this is saying help people when you can, because if you were in that situation you would want someone to help you.

This movie seemed to be very strong and moving. I thought that one of the themes of the movie was strong relationships between friends. It seemed as if Jarome and Vincent would have done anything for eachother. In the end Jarome did everything he could to make Vincent's life an easier and more enjoyable one.
Also there is a theme of understanding what it means to have actually "made it". To Jamrome that was to help Vincent as much as he could to actualy live and learn for himself in the outside world. There was less of living and learning in the outside world for Jarome. Vincent got exactly what he wanted in the end. The ending for Jarome wasn't quite as happy or relieving as the one of Vincent, but it seemed somewhat appropriate.

One theme that I picked up on was that there will always be prejiduce, but it will eventually go deeper than the skin. In america's society we tend to look down on people who are "earthy." The movie Gattaca takes this stereotype to a new level by discriminating against anyone who's genetical fate was left in God's hand.

Another theme I picked up on was the inability to completely become somebody else. You can cover up and act all you want, but you can never become the person you're trying to be at the core of your heart.
