Week Seven Thought Question

Our assignment this week is to compose a visual argument.

This means that you will use PowerPoint, Paint, Photoshop, Frontpage, or any program of your choosing to create a visual with a clear message. The colors, text, images, etc. should all make this message obvious. Also, you must have a clear sense of your target audience.

Why is it important to understand visual rhetoric? Why might this be an important skill "on the job"? How can you use ethos, pathos, and logos in a visual argument?

Remember to post a minimum of five sentences, proofread closely for spelling and grammar, and try to raise interesting questions of your own.

Thanks!

It is important to understand visual rhetoric because it is important to know the point of the visual. If you didn't know the point of the visual, it wouldnt make any sense. To use rhetoric in a job, it would be a good thing to know how to get your point across. You can have an advertisement or a poster that doesn't make any sense or is boring because the person making it didn't know how to get the audiences attention.
I can use logos in a visual arguement when the title and picture are relavent to eachother. I can use ethos by putting my name on the visual arguement I have created. Pathos can be how the audience responds to the visual arguement. This could be their response to the color, the way the people in the visual arguement appear, or the text font.

Understanding visual rhetoric is very important. You need to know the hidden message behind things, and the main message of the visual. Being able to understand visual rhetoric would be a good job skill. It would be key for advertisers and other jobs too. Doing presentations you want them to see your opinion, and you rhetoric can help to persuade them. You could use logos by adding some facts. Use pathos by adding a picture what will appeal to the emotions. Use ethos by adding someone’s name with credibility in the subject. Jenny Evans

It is important to understand visual rhetoric because one needs to know what is the point of the visual. Every detail in a visual is put that way for a reason. If the details of a visual weren't put in a certain way, the point of the visual could become very ineffective. Having rhetoric skills might be important in a job because one would be able to persuade people in a more effective manner.
Ethos in a visual argument can be shown by having a well known sponsor to back me up, and I would put the name of that sponsor somewhere on the visual. Pathos can be used by showing a person with an emotional expression on their face. Logos can be used by showing before and after pictures of someone's actions.

Understanding a visual rhetoric is important because there is always a hidden message in every picture. With every visual each individual person comes up with their own interpretation of the underlying meaning. Advertisers are the main users of visual rhetoric in the work field, but many other professions would also use it. For example when you are in a meeting and you have a powerpoint and you want to get your point across to someone you want to use a visual and get people to see what you see. You can use ethos in a visual agrument by useing a argument that has someone with good credibility. Pathos by using an emotional subject that would appeal to peoples emotions. Logos by adding some text that are stating some facts about your subject.

When an advertising company usuals a visual piece to market their product there is almost always a little bit of hidden messages within them. It is important to understand a visual rhetoric because if you don't understand it then you might not be able to fully understand the certain visual. This would be an important skill on the job to better help make a more interesting presentation if you have to give one for your job. Another thing is that when you are creating your visual rhetoric you have to know just who you are going after as a target audience. You can use ethos, pathos, and logos in many different ways in that you can use one to show what your product is and another to set up a subliminal message to the reader.

Understanding a visual rhetoric is very important in a persons life. This skill will help a person siphon through different advertisements and be able to decide for themselves if the information being displayed is true. The first thing that usually sticks out to a viewer is the pathos of the argument. If you are able to understand how to interept them, you will first look at the ethos of it to decide if the information is credible, and then will look at the logos to see whether or not this advertisement is even logical. Through being able to interept different visual arguments, you will be able to save money from buying products with false advertising, you will be able to decide if the product will actually benifit you, and you will be able to know if what you are doing is in fact the correct decision before you purchase the product.

I think its important to understand visual rhetoric so you can see different things. I think if you look at something in a different perspective you can understand the different meanings. If you were to write something instead of have a visual, I think its harder to understand what its talking about. If you have a visual, everyones opinion might be different but at least your not confused. When getting a job, such as merchandising, if you visualize how the store will look this could help you. I think when showing your visual and what bad could happen, thats logos. Showing the bad and good with emotions is pathos. and you dont always have to use ethos in your visuals

It's important to understand visual rhetoric because it's a different way to bring across a message. Whatever way the creator presents it, whether it's a movie or a poster or even a commercial, they have tied a hidden message to it. Logos can be used by the advertisment itself. The title or the picture. Also, Pathos is used by maybe printing the fine print or using a person's name in the advertisment for credibility. Ethos shows the emotion or the example of the emotion with what the creator is trying to visualize.

Understanding Visual Rhetoric is highly important. It is important for some jobs more than others, such as being a Play Therapist for children. You must know what colors mean when they draw so you may understand whats going on in the childs mind. Though it is not important for every job, such as a nurse. A nurse has no need to look at advertisement or pictures to understand what is going on.~Shayla Stephenson

I believe knowing how to make powerpoints and other visuals is important. Understanding visual rhetoric is something that will help you with getting any kind of point across. Knowing how to use ehtos, logos, and pathos is important along with the color of the visual. If you don't know how to get your audience, you won't make a powerful point. I have learned how to use ethos, logos, and pathos, and I feel like I can attract and audience better because of it! Making people think about what you are portraying is important because it will pull them in. It never hurts to know more about rhetorical visuals!

It is important to understand visual rhetoric because it is a form of communication that is frequently used. Visual information is shared through television, newspapers, magazines, billboards; it is a common way to get a message across. Being able to understand the message that visual rhetoric is trying to send as it relates to a job is important so that you understand what the main message that is trying to be conveyed is. The cover on a proposal from someone who wants to do business with your company can tell you what they value most. It might emphasize pathos by showing happy, healthy people enjoying themselves. It could use logos by offering facts on the cover of the document about what a difference their product has made, and could use logos if it also offered endorsements from experts in the field who have also used the product. It is important to look at and be able to understand what is valued most by others you might do business with.

Understanding a rhetoric visual I believe it is a very important skill to obtain. You get the opportunity to see and understand the artist's point of view when you take a look at their picture or ad. By doing so, this can help you see things from a new perspective making you a wiser person in generall. While using a rhetorical visual in a job it is a great way to express your feelings without saying a word. I personally believe that a picture can cause a deeper sensation to people other than a person just verbally stating an argument. Using pathos, ethos, and logos would make your picture or ad seem a lot more credible and attention grabbing! ~Sheyla

It is important to understand a visual rhetoric because then you know what the visual is saing. All visuals are effective in what they do and if they were not they would be pointless basically. Pathos can be used by showing emotion in a visual rhetoric. Logos can be used by the text of visual. Ethos can be used by the title and the overall theme of the visual argument.

It is important to understand the meaning of visual rhetoric. in the picture we see today, there are hippen pictures that we miss. It may take more then a couple looks to see what the message is saying. Logos can be an example of visual arguements. Pathos is a example of the audience reading or looking at the picture.

It is important to understand a visual rhetoric because it’s something that we are always seeing. Visuals are a great way of communication, but only if you can understand what its saying. It’s great to be able to come up with a good interpretation of a visual because visual are usually trying to convince us or to tell us that a certain action is needed. Ads can’t just keep putting messages in our head we have to analyze the ad, and come up with an interpretation that we truly believe or think is right. I want to be a teacher, so understanding rhetorical visuals is probably going to be really important for me. Pathos in an ad can be used to create emotional feeling in people if the advertiser puts a picture of a really sad looking person, the logos could maybe be that there’s a fact at the bottom of the ad stating something about the picture, and the ethos could be the advertisers uses creativity, and credibility shown in the ad.

Visual rhetoric is important to understand both on and off the job. We are surrounded by lazy people who don't like to read, so advertisers have had to come up with different ways to catch the attention of the viewers. Creating a visual rhetoric really depends on the audience and importance. The only visual rhetoric I see at my office is safety signs for truck drivers or little reminders saying not to forget their bills. I notice drivers check out the pictures long before they read the posts with text. The way we present something will either make or break the acceptance of the of what you are presenting. Ethos, pathos, and logos can be incorporated very easily into a visual rhetoric. Throw a little credibility in by finding an organization or official spokesman for a product. Logos and pathos can both be incorporated with words or pictures.

It is important to understand visual rhetoric because it is important to see what the creator was trying to achieve through the visual. It is important so that the viewer can see the point of the visual so then it does not seem like the creator was wasting there time when they were making the visual. The creator is able to use pathos, ethos, and logos to "sway" the view of the viewer. They are able to use many different methods in order to accomplish this goal.

Visual Rhetoric is very important to understand because you will see it and interact with it all the time. You definantly want to be able to understand the things people are feeding to you, you may not want to support certain things or certain visuals can be disrespectful you or something you beliive in and visa versa you may want to support something either way we need to understand visual rhetoric
