Last Post!

Everyone,

I truly appreciate your hard work with these blog posts all semester! There has been some truly powerful writing in these responses. Often, the level of insights and analysis is much higher than in the papers. Sometimes, it helps to relax and simply respond. Overthinking can cause writer's block.

For your last post, I want you to tell me how you have achieved or not achieved the Course Competencies:

1. Practice writing as a recursive process.
2. Practice reading as an active part of the writing process.
3. Apply the rules of Standard English grammar.
4. Investigate research resources where/when available.
5. Recognize standard documentation form.

This post should be reflexive.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to your posts!

Attending this class has really helped me. From expanding the way i express myself in my papers, from working on my grammar and thesis. Before this class, i had a hard time really expressing my self. I didnt really know how to talk about something by using expressions. The 4 page paper really challenge me, however it was a good english experience! Also being in this class improved my grammar. Before, my grammar was pretty bad. However, now my my grammar is improving!Overall i really enjoyed this class~Sheyla

For me this was another year of not putting my all into something. I have all the confidence that i could possibly have in my abilties i know my weaknesses and i just never put the work into my writing and school work that I can. This is for a few reasons i am busy with my job, trying to start a small business, family and friend: But that's not it i was not focused on my taskes and i let the smallest things distract me. will I ever get it together.......

i have written in a recursive process because i have rewritten allot of my papers, and revised them for better grades. I have read all of the assignments in the convergencies book. I have learned how to write a more organized paper. Most of my recources were from the internet. I have used some from newspapers. I
have relearned how to write an MLA paper again. I have learned how to document my recources.

When I go and look for sources every assignment, to try to make my paper work the best, I find myself reading a lot. I read all of the sources to decide which would be the best to use and to compare and contrast the differences in the information. Through grammar exercises and by seeing corrections on my completed papers, I have picked up sevaral new rules of the English language. I have used several different resources including internet and books in order to put together good resources to create my best papers. Before this class, I had no idea what several types of essays are. I learned how to write a narrative essay and what format a business letter is in. I am glad we had these learning opportunities included.

I have always been able to minimally do the course competencies, but this semester I have added a little depth to my writing. I still have a long way to go before I will believe that I write well, but I'm on the right path. This semester, I have learned, but not perfected, the art of "b.s.ing". Last semester, I struggled just trying to come up with three pages for a paper. This semester, I have learned to expand my ideas. I feel that I am on the path to better writing.

As writing as a recursive process goes, I feel I have achieved the course competencies because I have been writing papers and notes for what seems like a daily basis. As for reading, I do not feel as though I have achieved the course competencies because I have not really taken the time to read anything that help improve that skill. I feel I have been doing well in applying the rules of standard english grammar, because I tend to write more properly since I have been in this class. I do not feel I have been investigating research resources where/when available, because I notice that I tend to use the same research resources for most of my papers or assignments. Finally, I feel so-so about whether or not I have achieved recognizing standard documentation form.

During this semester I have achieved the Course Competencies. Through writing, and rewriting papers I have used the recursive process. We have had many readings that have helped to show what we were learned. It made it clear, what we were writing about. Through out the semester we did a lot with grammar. The worksheet actives helped to show the rules, and peer review helped. When we got papers back you showed us the mistakes we made so helpful we wouldn't make them the next paper. We use research to help make our point stand out, and to help get our points across. You should were to get the best information, and other places that are not as creditable. With using research we would need to documentation. You showed the different ways to sources something in our papers, and the sites that will help us make a work citied page.

I don't really feel like I've practiced writing as a recursive process because when I sit down to write a paper I don't think about anything I did on the last paper, but maybe that means it is recursive.

I haven't practiced reading as a part of the writing process because I'm not a very big reader.

I feel like I have applied the rules of Standard English grammar as I have progressed through the semester.

I still retreat to the world wide web for information because I'm not that comfortable with data bases.

I can recognize forms of documentation, but I have to use easybib.com to create them.

I have learned a lot in this class this semester. I learned how to use the standard form of documentation. I have never been that good at documenting my sorces but now I am pretty good at it. I didn't really use the sorces that were available to me on the DMACC website. I tried my best to always use the standard english grammar, but I didn't always use them correctly.

I think I have done pretty well writing recursive. I worked on writing enough so when I need to right a paper it comes pretty easily. I need to do a lot better job or reading the paper before I turn it in. I still have a few run on sentences and not using the right punctuation. I think I have done pretty well when we had to look up information for our papers. I think I did a pretty good job at recognizing documentation form.

Throughout this semester when I have shown up to class I have achieved many of the Course Competencies. Some of these would include learning how to revise my papers so that I will do better on my papers rather than hand in my paper looking like a rough draft, and I have also practiced reading as an active part of the writing process when I read what was assigned out of the book. I will admit though that I am not good at all with applying the rules of Standard English grammar. Also I was not very good when I was suppose to research when/where available or recognizing a standard documentation form.

I have actually learned a lot in this class. I think I continually improve on my writing. When I would get my papers back to rivise, I would change everything and more. I think I understood everything a little better after I revised it. We had to read a few stories out of the book, and then talk or write about them. I think that was a good exercise for us to do. It taught me alot, and I now know how to use active reading as part of a writing process. To apply the rules of standard english comes easy for me. I make some mistakes when I'm writing my paper with comma's, because I write to fast. I get all these thoughts in my mind, and just start writing. I did learn how to use semi-colin's. I learn something new everyday in class. I had to go to McDonald's to make an analysis. I learnt how to research a place (where) and what time to go there (when.) Recognizing documentation form is something I think I should work on. I'm not very good at that. Tasha

English was one of my favorite classes in high-school and I was glad to see that I am continuing to love it in college. I feel I not only learned a lot from our Course Competencies, but they refreshed my memory from Advanced Placement English in high-school. I practiced writing as a recursive process mostly with my rough drafts. I probably spent too much time on them, but I enjoy editing and peer reviewing because I always feel there is room for improvement in my writing. I have also learned to appreciate reading more, which is something that doesn't hold my attention very well. I have expanded my appreciation of essays, stories, and visuals from learning how to analyze them more thoroughly. I think I struggle somewhat with standard documentation, but this course has helped a lot with that. I am so glad I decided to take this class my first semester back to college, because it got me very anxious for more writing courses and has made me ambitious about improving my writing.

I have achieved writing as be recursive because I have rewritten my essay papers at least three, or more times. Before, I usually retyped my papers only once.

I have accomplished practicing reading as an active part of the writing process and applied the rules of Standard English grammar by reading my essays out-loud and finding my mistakes; then I corrected my essays.

I have recognized standard documentation form by going to owl.english.purdue.edu to see how MLA style is done.

I have investigated research resources where/when available when I went to do my brochure and analyzing a space essay.

I feel pretty good coming out of this class. I have learned more in the last five months than i did all of high school. I can take the correct ways of writing a thesis, main points, and a conclusion and make a good paper. I was never confident when writing papers before this class, and now i can write a paper and feel good about it. I've learned how to express myself in a more mature manner, use better punctuation and grammar! It has become easier to talk about many things in a paper and somehow pull them all together, well, at the end!
I loved this class and can't wait for comp II this summer!

I'm not too sure about this whole "Course Competencies" thing, but I know that I'm glad I took this class, cuz I did learn me alot of good grammer. But really this class helped me expand my writing abilities to a college level which will help me down the road when I become a politician.

This has been a pretty hard composition class. I feel i have done alright in here. Before this class i have never heard of the words ethos pathos and logos and now i have and I have been using them in about all my writings. I have tried my best to use proper english grammer in this class, but sometimes i did not use them correctly. I know though it has improved a lot throughout this course. I should have paid more attention at times because i feel my papers would have improved.

I know I haven't been 100% in this class. If I could go back to the beginning of the class, I would do everything different. That way, I could be a great writer. Anyways, I don't feel I have practice writing or reading as a process, but I do feel I have applied the rules of english grammar. I know where I can get sources for research papers. I also can recongnize a standard documentation form.

taking the class as really help me develope as a writer. Practicing the recursive process helped me out a lot. Just going over and over my paper helped me find mistakes that I wouldnt of found by just reading it once. Also after turning my papers in and getting them back I can then recursive them and turn them back in for a better grade. Reading the book assignments and has showed me examples of how my writing can improve. Also I can now recognize standard documentaion form and recognize grammer mistakes. Also this class as showed me the proper way or researching and showed me how to cite things that I use.

I really enjoyed this class because of all the different things I learned throughout the sememter. The space itself had a great atmosphere, and I really liked being there becuase everything we did was fun, and helpful. I think that now I write better papers, and everytime I write a paper I use all the Knowledge that I have learned from that class. I really want to be a teacher in the future, so this class has been a great experience. Everything we did in that class has helped me become a better writer.

I believe that I have learned a lot from this class. Even though I'm not the best writer in the world, I have improved a lot since high school comp. I have learned to express myself better. My grammer has always been alright, but this class has improved it a little. All-in-all, I liked the class. Cory

I've always had an appreciation for good writing and this class has expanded my horizons and made me a better, more insightful and creative writer. The class in and of itself has been a recursive process and every assignment set us up for the next and provided us with more understanding moving forward. The reading assignments were all awesome examples of the skill being taught and were inspirational and challenging at the same time as they inspired us to write more creatively. The reiteration and revisiting of the rules of grammar throughout for me was most significant as it is an area that I've always had challenges with, but I definitely walk away from this course with a better and clearer grasp on grammar. Researching sources is another area that I have experienced measurable improvement in since beginning this course, and the accompanying assignments and direction to provide standard documention has I believe made me a more completely capable writer than I was before. This course has increased my appreciation for and love of writing and I say a heartfelt "Kudos" to our instructor!

I know If I could go back to the beginning of the semester, I would have came everyday; no matter what the weather was doing or how horrible i felt. I wish I would have put more time in effort in my papers, but its so hard when I really dont even like writing papers. I dont enjoy It, and never really have. This class was very challenging for me, it kept me on my toes. Thanks for all your help sarah!!

This class has been beneficial to me because it has made me a better writer. Before this I had absolutely no structure to any of my papers, and now I know that that will be helpful to me in all of my papers in the future. I actually learned how to source things a little bit better as well, and I have really struggled with that in the past. Overall this class has helped me become a better writer.

This class has really helped me open up with my writing capabilities. I forgot I even had the skills that I had. The computer though still is my "friend" because of the spell check. I had never even read chapters in a book before this class for about 10 years. I haved learned different outlets to find information for papers that I never knew existed. This class also helped me heal from the loss of my dog from the very first paper. That I will take away as being the most important paper I have written this semester. So I do want to thank you for giving us that particular assignment, "thank you!"

I'm not in your class but I like to write. When I was a student in literature classes and had to write under time restraints I had a very difficult time. Last summer i had a stroke that affected my left brain and seems to have lessened my inhibition. Now it's much easier to write;however i don't recommend this cure (a stroke). From your posts I get the impression you have a good prof who's giving you methods to get where you need to be without brain damage, although as college students you probably enjoy killing brain cells.
